The Financial Decision-Making Conference brings together researchers to present and discuss new work on how individuals and households make financial decisions. The conference is designed to be an accessible forum — one that welcomes a broad range of perspectives and methodological approaches, and that is especially open to contributions from junior scholars.
The conference is organized in partnership with the Stanford Initiative for Financial Decision-Making and co-sponsored by two leading academic journals — the Review of Asset Pricing Studies (RAPS) and the Review of Corporate Finance Studies (RCFS) — which offer a dual-submission option for presenters.
The questions at the heart of this field are ones that touch nearly everyone. Why are so many households unprepared for a financial emergency? How do families decide — or fail to decide — to save for college? What shapes a decision as consequential as buying a car or a home? A financially literate population is better equipped to navigate these moments, and tends to be better informed about the world more broadly.
Our goal is to plant the seeds: to build a research community among academics in finance and related fields who take seriously the human side of financial behavior, and to give junior scholars a high-quality venue to develop and share their work on these questions early in their careers.
We welcome submissions of unpublished research in financial decision-making, broadly defined. Both empirical and theoretical papers are encouraged. Topics include but are not limited to:
Authors submitting to the conference may elect a dual submission to the Review of Asset Pricing Studies (RAPS) or the Review of Corporate Finance Studies (RCFS). Dual submissions are reviewed under each journal's standard editorial process. There is no additional fee for the dual submission option.
Submissions are open to all researchers. There is no submission fee. Papers should represent original, unpublished work. Extended abstracts will be considered but full papers are preferred.

Bozeman, Montana
Gallatin Valley · August 6–7, 2026
Bozeman sits at 4,800 feet in the heart of the Gallatin Valley, cradled by the Bridger Mountains to the northeast and the Spanish Peaks to the southwest. In August, the valley is at its most vivid — wildflower meadows, blue-ribbon trout streams, and long mountain evenings. Situated in the American West, Bozeman is a wonderful conference setting and ideal for an extended trip.
The city itself has grown into a genuine college town with a thriving downtown — walkable restaurants, breweries, and cafes along Main Street — while remaining just a short drive from world-class outdoor recreation. Yellowstone National Park is 90 minutes south; the Bridger Bowl and Big Sky trails are in the backyard.
